Setting Up Google Analytics

Google Analytics is tracking software of Google that tracks and reports website traffic. It is a free service that will allow you to track the behavior and visitors on your website. Google launched the service in November 2005. Google Analytics is now the most widely used web analytics service on the Internet. Google Analytics analysis can also identify where visitors came, how long they stayed and also their geographical position.

Google Analytics Guide

Here are a few terms you should know:

  1. Property the website or mobile app you want to track. 
  2. Account is a place where each property lives in your dashboard. You can have multiple properties for an account or have multiple accounts for different properties.
  3. Tracking ID is a unique code added to your site that allows Google analytics to track it.
  4. Conversions - visits that turn into customers or potential customers.
  5. Session duration -how many long visitors spend on your site. 
  6. Bounce Rate - percentage of visitors that view only a single page and leave.
  7. Event - visitors behavior, such as when a visitor clicks on ad, watches or stops a video, download a file or more.
  8. Landing Page - the first page a visitors see when visiting your website.
  9. Organic search - visitors who visit your site from a link.
  10. Segment – a way to filter the data, such as by category and types of visitors.

Types of reports

  • Acquisition - shows from where the traffic comes from, such as search engine, email marketing campaigns, social media etc. You can find it under Acquisition Tab.
  • Keywords – tells what search words the user has used to reach in your site on a search engine. You can find it under Behavior Tab, under Site Search. 
  • Conversions - track how many visitors are converting into newsletter subscribers, shoppers, actual customers. Click on the Conversion Tab and choose type or category of conversion to view a report. 
  • LifeTime Value - its value reports track visitors throughout their visit to conversion, return visits, future purchases and beyond. This help to figure out what turned those visitors into customers. 
  • LandingPage - shows you which pages are the most important and frequently visited first so you can track down, where those visitors are coming from and what’s attracting customers. 
  • Active Users - monitors how many visitors are active on your site within a specific time period, such past week, within 14 days or month. This will show you what pages the most active users are visiting so you can figure out what’s keeping their attention and apply it to the rest of your websites. You can find active users on the Audience Tab under Active Users.

How to use Google Analytics for tracking the website?

 1. Sign into Google Analytics with your Google account.
 2. Click the admin button on the bottom left sidebar of your dashboard.
 3. Select an account or create an account.
 4. Click on the drop-down menu to create a property.
 5. Click on the website option and add your sites name and URL.
 6. Choose your industry.
 7. Choose your time zone. 8. Click on Get Tracking ID.
 9. Install Tracking ID on your website.
 10. Paste the Tracking ID in the Analytics and Web Property of Other option of the blogger.
 11.Also, paste tracking code in the Theme section of the blog.
 12. Then Save the theme.

Google Webmaster Tools & Verification Procedures

Google search console previously known as Google webmaster tools is a free service by google for webmasters. Search console is a mok point which helps webmasters to communicate with google and vice versa. It will let you learn information about website and people who visit it and also allows webmasters to check indexing status and optimize visibility of their websites and it is a free tool or service by Google to the webmasters. This process is important in Search Engine Optimization.

Verification using webmaster tools

Google can confirm the ownership of the blog by adding and verifying blog in search console. Verification can be done through the following steps.

  1. Create a blog in your blogger.com account.
  2. Login to your search console through the link google.com/webmasters/tools/
  3. Copy the URL of your blog with .com extension. If the URL is with .in extension, replace it as .com/ncr and press enter. Then we can copy the URL with .com extension.
  4. Go back to webmaster tools and paste the URL of blog in the text box provided with "Add a Property" button. Click the "Add a Property" button.
  5. Next you will be asked to verify your blog. And there are a few verification methods. For a blog, select the "HTML tag" verification method and copy the "meta tag" data given in the text box.
  6. Go to the blogger dashboard, click on Theme and Edit HTML.
  7. Paste the copied meta data inside the ). Click Save Theme button.
  8. Go to search console and click verify button.

Now we can get a verification message from google.

Fetch As Google And Submit To Index

After clicking the continue from the verification message, the page will redirect to the blog dashboard. On the left hand side of the screen, we can see "Crawl" option. Click on it and choose "Fetch as Google". The page will redirect to a screen which will show an option to request index. You can request index there. You are done. Just wait for indexing.

Title tag Optimization
